All eight schools within the Rome City Schools district have been awarded the Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness for the 2024-2025 school year. This recognition places them among the 135 schools statewide that received this honor.
This accolade is awarded by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) in collaboration with the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS). The Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness distinguishes schools that demonstrate outstanding school emergency preparedness through rigorous planning and risk mitigation.
John Fricks, Director of Instructional Technology, Safety, and Operations for Rome City Schools, expressed pride in the achievement. "We are extremely proud of all of our schools for receiving this honor. The safety of our staff and students is a top priority for Rome City Schools, and we feel this honor further supports our Keeping Schools Safe Initiative," said Fricks. "We will continue to work and implement emerging safety concepts at all of our schools so we can stay on the cutting-edge in safety."
The partnership between GaDOE and GEMA/HS aims to acknowledge efforts from individual schools to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and faculty. Schools earning the seal have met specific criteria, including emergency operations planning, conducting drills and exercises, training programs, safety technology implementation, and data analysis.
