Four students from Rome City Schools have achieved recognition in the Northwest Georgia RESA Regional Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition. Annelyse Kirby, a sixth grader from East Central, and Allyson Gonzalez Gody, a freshman at Rome High, both secured first place in their respective grade levels. Additionally, Abigail Bomar, a second grader from East Central, and Taliana Lytle, a third grader from Elm Street, received honorable mentions.

The work of Kirby and Gonzalez Gody will advance to the state competition scheduled for judging in April.

"The purpose of the Young Georgia Authors writing competition is to encourage students to develop an enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing," the organizers stated. The competition aims "to provide a context to celebrate their writing successes and to recognize student achievement in arts and academics."

For over two decades, this competition has engaged students across Georgia. It is open to all K-12 students currently enrolled in Georgia public schools. The event is sponsored by the Georgia Language Arts Supervisors (GLAS) and the Georgia RESA Network.
