Rome High School has been recognized as an AP Honor School, according to a recent announcement by the Georgia Department of Education. The school earned distinctions in several categories: AP Humanities School, AP Humanities Achievement School, AP STEM School, and AP STEM Achievement School. It is among 301 schools in Georgia to receive such honors.
Principal Parke Wilkinson expressed pride in the efforts of both students and teachers at Rome High. "We are extremely proud of all of the hard work of our students and teachers. It's the long hours of working and studying they put in each and every day that helps elevate Rome High School," he stated.
The recognition for 2025 is based on results from 2024 AP courses and exams administered by the College Board. These courses offer Georgia high school students access to college-level learning opportunities. The Georgia Department of Education began acknowledging AP Honor Schools in 2008.
AP Humanities Schools must administer at least five exams across specified categories including English Language Arts, social studies, fine arts, world languages, with a minimum total of 25 exams. For a school to be designated as an AP Humanities Achievement School, at least half of these exams must score three or higher.
Similarly, AP STEM Schools need to conduct at least five exams across four different STEM subjects (math, science, computer science), also totaling a minimum of 25 exams. An achievement designation requires that at least half score three or higher.
Georgia State Superintendent Richard Woods commented on the significance of these awards: “Georgia's 2025 AP Honor Schools exemplify our commitment to providing students with rigorous, high-quality educational opportunities that prepare them for success beyond high school.” He further commended the schools for their dedication to academic excellence: “I commend these schools for their dedication to academic excellence and equipping students with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in college, careers, and life.”
