After nearly three decades of service, Larry Brown, the Band Director at Calhoun High School (CHS), is retiring. Mr. Brown, who began his teaching career in 1996 and joined Calhoun Middle School in 2004, became the CHS Band Director in 2016. He was recognized as the CMS Teacher of the Year in 2012 and STAR Teacher in 2015. Reflecting on his career, Brown stated, "It has been the thrill of a lifetime to work as a Calhoun Band Director... Much love to this amazing band program that has given so much to me and my family." Calhoun City Schools extended their best wishes for his retirement.
Thomas Osborne will succeed Brown as the new Director of the Calhoun High School Marching Yellow Jackets. Osborne has been part of the Calhoun band program for four years and has served as Director of Bands at both Calhoun Elementary and Middle Schools, along with being Assistant Band Director at CHS. Osborne expressed his enthusiasm by saying, "Since I started teaching at Calhoun, I have watched my students’ love for music and band grow."
Haley Miller will replace Osborne at the middle school level. A graduate of Jacksonville State University like Osborne, Miller brings extensive experience from her time as Head Section Leader for the Marching Southerners Clarinet Line and participation in various ensembles. Both Thomas Osborne and Haley Miller are committed to continuing the tradition of excellence associated with "The Best Band in the Land."
