Calhoun schools honored as math leaders by Georgia Department of Education

Calhoun City Schools has announced that Calhoun Middle School and Calhoun High School have been recognized as Math Leaders by the Georgia Department of Education. Calhoun Middle School received recognition for Outstanding Achievement, while Calhoun High School was acknowledged for Growth in mathematics. These awards are based on performance in the Algebra: Concepts and Connections End-of-Course (EOC) test, which is a state assessment for high school mathematics.

The Math Leader Awards are given to schools that demonstrate exceptional achievement or growth in the percentage of students scoring at the Proficient Learner level or above in mathematics. This accolade highlights the efforts of students, educators, and the community in mastering new K-12 mathematics standards aimed at building a strong foundation in numeracy.

"We are incredibly proud of Calhoun Middle and High School for this remarkable achievement,” said Dr. Michele Taylor, Superintendent of Calhoun City Schools. “Our students and teachers have shown tremendous dedication in embracing the new math standards, and seeing their efforts recognized at the state level is a true testament to their perseverance and hard work. This achievement reflects the commitment of our educators and students.”

The implementation of Georgia’s new K-12 mathematics standards during the 2023-2024 school year has been highlighted by the success of Calhoun Middle and High School, showcasing these standards' effectiveness in boosting student confidence in mathematics.
