Founder of Wing Zone starts off Entrepreneurship Speaker Series in February

Georgia Highlands College issued the following announcement on Jan. 27

The School of Business and Professional Studies at Georgia Highlands College continues its Entrepreneur Speaker Series (ESS) this spring starting Feb. 16 at noon with Wing Zone founder, entrepreneur, professional speaker and coach Matt Freeman.

Offered in partnership with GHC’s Entrepreneurship Pathway, students will hear speakers from varying industries share their experiences and perspectives on how to successfully begin or grow their own business. Each speaking engagement will begin at noon.

In addition to the series being free and open to the public, videos from each previous series are uploaded to the ESS webpage.

The theme this series is a little different this time around with a small focus on husband-and-wife teams with separate businesses.

“I wanted students to see couples who have separate businesses and how they both can be successful,” Assistant Professor of Business Administration Shanika Wright-Turner said. “I think this is a unique perspective that students will see as valuable.”

On March 16, H.A.N.K Music, drummer for hip-hop recording artist Big Sean, will speak with his wife Nyla XO, a songwriter, producer and keyboardist.

April 13 will feature Dr. Dena Turner, founder of The Chiro Place and her husband Marcus T. Turner, founder of the insurance agency Marcus Turner and Associates.

“The views on our previous speakers are constantly rising, which indicates people are still interested in the content,” Wright-Turner said.

In the Entrepreneurship Pathway, students tackle real world challenges through experiential learning.

“You have the opportunity to hear from successful business leaders,” Wright-Turner said. “If you are interested in starting your own venture, growing your business or even if you want to learn how to be more innovative in your own field, this program is for you.”

The series, which is free and open to the public, will transfer from a Zoom format to a podcast format with Wright-Turner as host following the spring semester. Visit ess.highlands.edu for more information and to register for any speaker event in this series.
