Berry Students Serve the Rome Area in Honor of 9/11

911

Berry College issued the following announcement on Sept. 28.

Berry College students remembered the lives of those lost on 9/11 by volunteering in the Rome community on Sept. 11.

The men’s basketball team took part in the service day by landscaping the premises at the Davies Shelter. Trevor Lydic talked about what giving back means to him and his teammates.

“This was a great way for us to give back to our community. We were able to serve as a team and make a difference. We want our team to understand that it’s not me, it’s about how can we serve others,” Lydic said.

Sites served included Sweet Cocoon, retreat for disabled and seriously ill children and families; Davies Shelter, Ruth & Naomi Shelter, Salvation Army, South Rome Community Garden, and Exchange Club.

The more than 100 student volunteers were part of the annual national day of service sponsored by AmeriCorps.
