Calhoun City Schools in Georgia have been recognized for their commitment to emergency preparedness. The Calhoun Early Learning Academy, Primary School, Elementary School, Middle School, and High School have all received the Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness. This honor is awarded by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) and the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS).

The Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness acknowledges schools that excel in emergency preparedness through comprehensive planning and risk mitigation. Among 2,238 public schools in Georgia, only 134 were honored with this seal during its pilot year.

Dr. Peter Coombe, Assistant Superintendent of Operations for Calhoun City Schools, expressed pride in the schools' efforts: “The Calhoun City Schools community is extremely proud of each of our schools for their extraordinary efforts to maintain a safe learning environment for all students. This recognition affirms the hard work of our building administrators, staff, and students as they develop and implement safety plans that are put into action each day.”

State School Superintendent Richard Woods also commended the district: “I offer my sincere congratulations to the Calhoun City School system and each of their schools on their receipt of the Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness,” he said. “This distinction recognizes a leader in school emergency preparedness – a school that has gone above and beyond to ensure the safety of their students, teachers, and staff.”

The award highlights an "all hazards" approach to school emergency planning that considers various potential threats. It emphasizes ongoing collaboration among school leaders to improve safety measures continually.

Calhoun City Schools' recognition underscores its dedication to maintaining a secure environment through partnerships with local police departments, fire departments, and emergency management agencies.
