On January 23, 2025, Sara Pass, an eighth-grade student at Calhoun Middle School, won the Calhoun City Schools District Spelling Bee. The event took place at the CCS Board of Education Central Office and included six top students from Calhoun Elementary and Middle School. They competed for a chance to advance to the regional level with hopes of reaching the state championship.

Sara secured her victory by spelling "karma" correctly in the final round. Jayden Alvarez, a sixth-grader from Calhoun Elementary School, was the runner-up after eleven challenging rounds. Alanna Hogan, a fifth-grader from CES, finished in third place.

The competition highlighted remarkable talent with participants Ayden Lampe, Dax Murphy, and James Linn chosen from over 1,500 students across both schools.

Calhoun City Schools expressed pride in all participants for their demonstration of excellence. As preparations begin for the regional competition in February, best wishes were extended to Sara Pass as she represents her school district. Acknowledgments were given to parents, teachers, and administration for their support in organizing such events. The school district values celebrating student achievements across academics, arts, and athletics.
