On Saturday, February 25, 175 Bartow County School System (BCSS) students and 45 coaches arrived at the Georgia Highlands College (GHC) Cartersville site to compete in the FIRST® LEGO® League Robotics Community Showcase and Competition.
The 24 teams engaged in robotic games and innovative projects utilizing kinetic tiles, hydroelectric plants and more.
The college began partnering with Bartow County schools to host the tournament since 2017. The tournament allows local elementary school and middle school students the opportunity to engage in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) in a fun and unique way.
“Not only can a competition such as this allow students an opportunity to display their work and showcase what they have learned, but it also helps students to gain and strengthen several 21st-century skills including critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication and leadership all while having fun,” Professor of Biology Sharryse Henderson said.
In addition to GHC and BCSS, Tennessee Valley Robotics also sponsored the event.
