U.S. Sen. Ralph Warnock (D-GA) has joined a list of Democrats who are speaking out against ending Title 42.

Title 42 is a public health policy that former President Donald Trump put in place and the U.S. has used since 2020 to stop the spread of COVID-19 by preventing immigrants from crossing the U.S.-Mexico border to claim asylum, CNN reported. President Joe Biden's administration said on April 1 that it will be revoking Title 42.

"Senator Warnock believes in protecting the humanity of migrants at the border, but before this policy is rescinded, the Administration should present a plan for how it will ensure our border security has the manpower, infrastructure, humanitarian and legal resources they need to prevent this policy change from making an already dire humanitarian situation worse," a Warnock spokesperson said in a statement.

Warnock was elected Senator last year during a 2021 special election and is vying for election to a full term this fall, Fox News reported.

The Department of Homeland Security is preparing for an estimated 18,000 immigrants daily at the U.S.-Mexico border should the Biden administration go through with ending Title 42, ABC News reported.

A letter written by the House Freedom Caucus to House Democrats said that throughout the first half of March, Title 42 saw to it that 51% of 97,000 people crossing the border were sent back to Mexico, Fox News reported.
