Today, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene's Gulf of America Act was advanced by the House Natural Resources Committee for a full House vote.
Following this development, Congresswoman Greene expressed her gratitude to the committee and Chairman Westerman in a statement, emphasizing the bill's role in embedding President Trump's America First Agenda into law. "I am grateful to Chairman Westerman and the House Natural Resources Committee for favorably reporting my Gulf of America Act out of committee. My bill is an important step in codifying President Trump's America First Agenda into law," she stated.
Congresswoman Greene highlighted that the U.S. armed forces ensure the safety of Gulf of America's waterways and commerce. She stated, "The American people are footing the bill to protect and secure the Gulf of America's maritime waterways for commerce to be conducted. Our U.S. armed forces protect the area from any military threats from foreign countries."
The Congresswoman firmly reiterated the bill's objective, saying, "It’s our gulf. The rightful name is the Gulf of America and it’s what the entire world should refer to it as."
Further detailing the proposal, Greene explained that the bill mandates the Chairman of the Board on Geographic Names to update all federal documents and maps within 180 days post-approval. "Congress has to take the Trump Agenda mandate seriously and that means acting fast to enact it. That's exactly what this bill does by codifying one of President Trump's most important executive orders into law," she emphasized. She also stressed the importance of the bill in preventing future changes: "This prevents any possible future Democrat regime from reversing this order through executive action."
Greene urged her colleagues for swift passage of the bill, adding, "I urge my colleagues to join me to quickly pass this bill."
The bill is backed by 16 cosponsors: Rep. Mary Miller, Rep. Barry Moore, Rep. Claudia Tenney, Rep. Mike Collins, Rep. Randy Weber, Rep. Andy Ogles, Rep. Mike Lawler, Rep. Mike Haridopolos, Rep. Greg Steube, Rep. Eric Burlison, Rep. Brian Babin, Rep. Michael Rulli, Rep. Troy Nehls, Rep. Brandon Gill, Rep. Nicholas Langworthy, and Rep. Daniel Webster.
