In the 2024-25 school year, Swain Elementary School enrolled 10 multiracial students—an increase of 42.9% from the prior year, reports from the Georgia Department of Education show.
Total enrollment at Swain Elementary School reached 336 students for the 2024-25 school year. Multiracial students comprised 3% of the student body, making up one of the smallest demographic groups at the school.
Located in the Gordon County School District, Swain Elementary maintains its central office in Calhoun.
In the same period, Sonoraville High School had the highest number of multiracial students in the Gordon County School District with 32 students enrolled.
Georgia’s public schools enrolled more than 1.7 million students, according to the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report. Elementary schools had the largest share with 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by middle schools with 388,733 students (22.7%), and high schools with 539,092 students (31.4%).
Chronic absenteeism continues to be a significant issue for Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more of their school days in 2024, the Georgia Department of Education noted. In response, the GaDOE launched a statewide initiative that includes a real-time attendance dashboard, a public awareness campaign, and targeted assistance for high-need districts to improve daily attendance.
Georgia lawmakers updated school attendance laws in 2025 to prohibit expulsions solely for absenteeism. The new statute also brings additional reporting requirements and coordinates with efforts to allow students to earn diplomas through alternative pathways.
As of 2026, Georgia reported an average student-to-teacher ratio of about 14:1. This ratio is more favorable than the national average of 15:1.
