Scotty Tillery, a respected figure in Cedartown and Polk County, passed away at the age of 58 following a battle with cancer. His death has left what many regard as a legacy of devoted public service. Tillery held the position of County Commissioner and was recognized for his influential leadership and dedication to numerous local causes.

State Sen. Jason Anavitarte (R–Dallas), State Senator at Georgia General Assembly, expressed his condolences and admiration for Tillery's contributions to the community. He stated, "It is with a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and constituents of Commissioner Scotty Tillery, who passed away last night." Anavitarte continued by praising Tillery's unwavering dedication and service to Cedartown, stating that "Commissioner Tillery’s commitment to public service, his passion for the betterment of Cedartown and Polk County, and his tireless efforts to improve the lives of its residents have earned him the respect and admiration of many." In conclusion, he offered his sympathy and support during this challenging time: "During this challenging time, I want to express my sincere sympathy and support to Commissioner Tillery’s family, friends, and the entire Polk County community."

According to Polk Today, Tillery passed away shortly before his 59th birthday. He was engaged in various businesses in Polk County including Polk County Public Service alongside his brother Rocky, Croker’s Hardware, and local golf courses. A 1983 graduate of Cedartown High School, Tillery leaves behind his wife Ann Marie, children Clayton, Russell, Erika Tillery; grandchildren; along with others impacted by his community involvement.

Polk Today also reported on Tillery's active involvement in local causes such as opposing the expansion of Grady Road Landfill; advocating for crime prevention; supporting economic growth; as well as conservation efforts like the Potts Hollow Trailhead for the Pinhoti. After being diagnosed with cancer in late summer 2023, he publicly announced the news in November, expressing gratitude for the support received during his treatment. The funeral arrangements are being handled by Smith and Miller Funeral Home in Cedartown, with services scheduled for Friday, January 5, at Cedartown First United Methodist Church following a visitation at 12 p.m. The church has requested privacy for the Tillery family.

In a post, Governor Brian Kemp expressed his condolences: "Marty, the girls, and I were saddened to hear of Commissioner Scotty Tillery’s passing. He represented both the people of Cedartown and Polk County with true distinction. His family and loved ones are in our prayers during this difficult time."
