Berry decathlete Hayden Raikes earned Southern Athletic Association Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors for his performance last weekend at the UAB Green & Gold Invite in Birmingham, Ala. The award was announced by the SAA office Wednesday afternoon.
Raikes competed in his first Decathlon and placed seventh overall in a field comprised of mostly NCAA D-I competitors with a score of 5193 points. That score ranks him No. 2 in both the SAA and D-III South Region, and places him No. 22 in all of D-III. He set personal-best marks in the High Jump (1.83m), 110m Dash (11.14), and Javelin (44.88m). He also competed for the first time in the Discus, Pole Vault, and 1500m Run.
The Vikings will be back in action at Clark Track and Dickey Field at Valhalla Stadium this Friday and Saturday for the Berry Field Day Invitational.
