Rome City Schools has extended the deadline for Pre-K registration to Thursday, Feb. 20. Registration is available from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day at the individual schools.
Pre-K classes are offered at Anna K. Davie, Elm Street, Main, West Central, and West End Elementary Schools within the district. The West End location also provides a Pre-K Inclusion class. According to Rome City Schools, “Completed registration packets received at each school by Thursday, February 20, by 2 p.m. will be entered into the lottery process described below.”
Enrollment in the RCS PreK program is based on a lottery system with three tiers:
“Tier I – applicants living in the school’s required attendance zone
Tier II – applicants living inside all attendance zones for Rome City Schools
Tier III – applicants living outside the attendance zones of Rome City Schools”
The statement continues: “Tier I applications are drawn first to fill all available slots. If slots remain unfilled, Tier II applications will be drawn, followed by Tier III applications. All applications not drawn will be added to the school’s waitlist.”
Parents or guardians registering children for Pre-K must bring several documents: identification (with guardianship documentation if needed), student birth certificate showing the child is four years old on or before September 1, and proof of Georgia residency and attendance zone such as a utility bill (driver’s licenses and cell phone bills are not accepted). Additional documents may be required after acceptance into the program.
For more information about attendance zones or other questions regarding registration, families can visit their nearest RCS elementary school or call the district office at 706.236.5050.
