Rome City Schools Board welcomes two new members after November election

The Rome City Schools Board of Education held its official swearing-in ceremony at the College and Career Academy at Rome High School on Tuesday afternoon, prior to the board’s regular meeting.

District Attorney Chris Twyman introduced Judge Kay Ann King, who administered the oath of office to both returning and new board members. Returning members are Faith Collins, Will Byington, Toni Blanchard, Pascha Burge, and Alvin Jackson. Brenda Boyd and Marquita Davis joined as new members following their election in November 2025.

Brenda Boyd is a retired educator with 34 years of experience in Rome City Schools. She has longstanding ties to the community and emphasizes literacy and education. Several of her family members have also attended schools within the district. Boyd said she uses her teaching background “to ensure that parents, teachers, students, and stakeholders have a voice.” As a former media specialist, she highlights the importance of libraries in schools.

Boyd encourages families to participate in their children’s education: “She welcomes and encourages parents to have input in their children’s education and encourages parents and grandparents to complete the required volunteer training and serve in their children’s school(s). She believes family engagement is key to student success and wants parents and caregivers to stay in contact with their children’s teachers and to attend school events.”

Marquita L. Davis is recognized for her work supporting student achievement, educational access, and community-focused programs. Her service has been acknowledged with the Heart of the Community Award of Honor as well as an honorary doctorate degree. Davis has worked with organizations such as Harbor House, CASA, Rome NAACP (where she organized a Youth Mock Voter Election), Rome Junior Wolves Athletic Organization, and South Rome Community Association.

Davis co-founded initiatives like the South Rome Free Tutoring Program and AIM at Main Mentorship Program for academic support within Rome City Schools. She holds multiple degrees and certifications in Computer and Information Technology, founding 4D Computer Repairs to address technology barriers for families. According to her statement: “As a board member, she prioritizes student-centered decision-making, responsible stewardship, and policies that support academic growth, family engagement, and long-term student success.”

Rome City School District provides public education from kindergarten through high school with advanced courses such as Advanced Placement classes and career-technical programs. The district operates under a governing board responsible for setting educational policies and priorities aimed at ensuring quality learning experiences for all students.

The district reports a graduation rate of 95.7% and offers one-to-one technology resources for K-12 students. Programs include academics alongside enrichment activities such as arts and athletics, virtual learning options and support services for diverse needs. The Board of Education oversees policy decisions and administration throughout its elementary, middle,and high school programs serving students in Rome,Georgia.
