Polk School District announced on May 13 that a new policy regarding personal electronic devices will be implemented at the start of the 2026–2027 school year.

The district said the change is in alignment with Georgia House Bill 340 and House Bill 1009. The purpose of the policy is to create a distraction-free learning environment for students so they can focus, engage, and succeed.

According to the announcement, all kindergarten through twelfth grade students must keep their personal electronic devices in a designated storage area, as determined by school administration, from the first bell until the last bell. The rule applies to cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, earbuds and headphones, as well as any other devices capable of wireless communication, internet access, messaging, video recording, gaming, social media access or data transmission. The district also stated that this rule applies while students are riding school buses.

The district thanked parents and guardians for their partnership in supporting student focus on education. It also noted that violations of this policy will result in disciplinary action according to the Student Code of Conduct.

“Thank you for your continued support in making our schools a place where learning comes first!” said Polk School District.
