Menlo Elementary School’s enrollment of multiracial students reached 23 in the 2024-25 school year, marking a 53.3% increase from the prior year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.
State data indicated Menlo Elementary had a total of 334 students during the 2024-25 school year. Multiracial students represented 7% of total enrollment, making them the second-largest demographic at the school.
The school is a part of Chattooga County School District and has its central office in Summerville.
Of the five schools in the district, Leroy Massey Elementary School had the largest group of multiracial students in the 2024-25 school year, with 82 enrolled.
The National Center for Education Statistics reported Georgia’s overall public school makeup as approximately 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.
Chronic absenteeism continues to be a significant concern in Georgia after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more school days in 2024, according to the state education department. To address this, GaDOE created a statewide initiative including tools such as a real-time attendance dashboard, a public awareness campaign, and targeted district support to increase daily attendance.
In 2025, the Georgia General Assembly passed legislation updating school attendance rules to prohibit expulsion based solely on absenteeism. The changes also add new reporting standards and partner with credential programs so students can earn diplomas via alternative pathways.
As of 2026, Georgia maintained an average student-to-teacher ratio of about 14:1, which remained lower than the national average of 15:1.
