Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a U.S. Congresswoman, used her social media platform to criticize the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, and its impact on health insurance costs. Greene, who began her term in Congress in 2021, shared personal experiences and broader opinions on the state of health insurance in the United States in a series of posts published on October 6 and 7, 2025.
In a post on October 6, Greene stated, “I was not in Congress when all this Obamacare, ‘Affordable Care Act’ bullshit started. I got here in 2021. As a matter of fact, the ACA made health insurance UNAFFORDABLE for my family after it was passed, with skyrocketing premiums higher than our house payment.”
Continuing her criticism the following day, Greene wrote, “The toothpaste (Obamacare – ACA) is out of the tube. Trying to make it clear that I think the entire system is messed up. Health insurance is vastly unaffordable for all Americans especially since the cost of living has sky rocketed in the past 4 1/2 years.”
Later on October 7, Greene commented on potential media reactions to her statements: “Ruhroh. MTG broke ranks and told the truth about the seriousness of unaffordable health insurance plaguing Americans. Launch the same old controlled DC reporters to ask her Republican colleagues questions about her and write articles to frame and isolate her. Go ahead.”
Greene has been a prominent political figure since winning her first congressional election in 2020 against Kevin Van Ausdal, securing 74.7% of the vote. She continued her electoral success by defeating Marcus Flowers in 2022 with 65.9% and Shawn Harris in 2024 with 64.4% of the vote.
The Affordable Care Act was enacted in 2010 with the aim of expanding health insurance coverage and reducing costs for Americans. The law has remained a contentious issue in U.S. politics, with ongoing debates about its effectiveness and impact on health care affordability.
