Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Georgia’s 14th district, has recently shared her views on the renaming of the Gulf of America and legislative developments surrounding it. Born in Milledgeville, Georgia, Greene graduated from the University of Georgia in 1996 with a BBA and has been a congressional representative since replacing Tom Graves in 2021.
On May 8, 2025, Greene expressed her thoughts on social media regarding opposition to renaming the Gulf of America. She questioned why Democrats were against this change, suggesting they “would rather honor a foreign country run by drug cartels than stand up for the American people.” She emphasized that “the Gulf isn’t secured by Mexico” but is instead defended by “the United States Coast Guard and Navy.” “Democrats are throwing a fit over renaming the Gulf of America, but why?”
Later that day, Greene announced significant progress with legislation related to this issue. The House had passed the Gulf of America Act, which she described as essential because “OUR military defends its waters,” and stressed that it was an executive order from President Trump that needed codification into law. ” BREAKING: The Gulf of America Act has PASSED the House!”
Greene further highlighted her enthusiasm for this legislative victory and urged swift action from the Senate to advance the bill to President Trump’s desk. She characterized it as “a great win for our country” and called for expedited passage through the Senate. “This is a great win for our country!”
