Rome City Schools has announced the appointment of Dr. Kate Thomas as the new principal of Main Elementary School. Dr. Thomas, who has over 20 years of experience in education, is recognized for her leadership skills and commitment to student-centered learning.
Dr. Thomas expressed her enthusiasm about her new role: “I am thrilled for the opportunity to become Main Elementary School’s principal. I know that Main has a rich history of excellence,” she stated. “I’m proud to be a part of this journey moving forward.”
Before joining Rome City Schools, Dr. Thomas was the Superintendent of Polk School District, overseeing more than 1,100 staff members and 7,800 students. Her tenure there was marked by significant improvements in student achievement, with schools achieving their highest scores on the state’s College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI).
“Helping students succeed is my passion, and I think we have a remarkable opportunity to move students ahead,” said Dr. Thomas regarding her new position at Rome City Schools. She praised the district’s academic achievements and its reputation in the arts: “I am ecstatic and happy to be a part of it and to be able to help contribute in a small part to the ultimate success of our students at Main Elementary.”
Dr. Thomas’s career includes founding initiatives such as Project SUCCESS and work-based learning partnerships with local industries, as well as establishing the Polk County College and Career Academy. Her expertise spans curriculum development, staff training, and strategic planning.
As she assumes her duties at Main Elementary School, Dr. Thomas looks forward to building strong relationships with families, staff, and the community to enhance student growth and success.
