House study committee to review support for minors after hospital discharge

The House Study Committee on Abandoned Child Placement Following Hospital Discharge will hold its first meeting in Atlanta on September 15, 2025. The committee is chaired by State Representative Katie Dempsey (R-Rome). The session is scheduled for 10 a.m. in room 606 of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building.

The committee was established through House Resolution 611 and aims to analyze gaps in community services and resources available from public, nonprofit, and private sectors. Its focus is to better support minors discharged from psychiatric hospitalization and acute hospital emergency rooms.

“Created by House Resolution 611, this study committee will provide gap analysis of community services and resources provided by the public, nonprofit and private sectors to better support minors being discharged from psychiatric hospitalization and acute hospital emergency rooms.”

Members of the committee are expected to participate in the meeting, which will also be available via live stream for those seeking more information.

Burns, a Republican who was elected to the Georgia State House in 2005 representing the state’s 159th House District, has been involved in legislative activities since replacing former representative Ray Holland.

The meeting will take place at the Coverdell Legislative Office Building, Room 606, located at 18 Capitol Square S.W., Atlanta, GA 30334.
