House committee to discuss support for minors after hospital discharge

The House Study Committee on Abandoned Child Placement Following Hospital Discharge, chaired by State Representative Katie Dempsey (R-Rome), is scheduled to hold its third meeting in Atlanta. The session will take place on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 10 a.m. in room 606 of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building.

This committee was established by House Resolution 611 and is tasked with analyzing gaps in community services and resources offered by public, nonprofit, and private organizations. Its focus is to find ways to better support minors who are discharged from psychiatric hospitalization and acute hospital emergency rooms.

Burns, a Republican, has served as the representative for Georgia’s 159th House District since 2005 after succeeding Ray Holland.
