Today, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE), spearheaded a letter addressed to House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole. The letter urges the committee to formally integrate President Trump’s cost-cutting reforms into law as part of the fiscal year 2026 appropriations process.
The correspondence was co-signed by DOGE Committee members Representatives Tim Burchett, Eric Burlison, Brandon Gill, Brian Jack, and William Timmons. They advocate for Congress to follow the Trump Administration’s example in reducing wasteful federal spending and securing savings identified by DOGE and its subcommittee.
“President Trump is leading the greatest government efficiency overhaul in history, and it’s working. The DOGE Subcommittee has exposed massive waste, fraud, and abuse, and now Congress must act. We’re calling on appropriators to defund the left’s propaganda machines, slash aid to our enemies, and make these savings permanent,” said Chairwoman Greene.
She added that “the American people didn’t vote to fund abortion overseas, woke NGOs, or government-run media. They voted to end the waste and put America First.”
The letter emphasizes nearly $9 billion in rescissions proposed by the administration and calls for further cuts across various programs such as foreign aid and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. It stresses reducing staffing levels at federal agencies by using reductions-in-force (RIFs), early retirements, and contract terminations as demonstrated by current administrative actions.
The President’s budget proposal aims to cut non-defense discretionary spending by 23%, potentially saving over $2 trillion over ten years.
“The DOGE Subcommittee has done its part to identify the waste, fraud, and abuse. Now it’s time for the Appropriations Committee to do theirs and write these cuts into law,” Greene stated.
The full letter is available for review through official channels.
