A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Gordon County Election Department in Georgia, requesting comprehensive details about the candidates running for the upcoming spring election. The request was made on February 5, 2025.

As a media organization committed to providing accurate and comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Rome Reporter are seeking this information under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. We have requested this data preferably in an electronic format for ease of access and dissemination.

The specific details requested include the full names of all candidates – first, middle, and last names – along with the office they are running for and its jurisdiction. Additionally, we have asked for the party affiliation of each candidate.

Furthermore, we have requested all available contact information for these candidates. This includes their addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses.

As a member of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
