Fifth Avenue Health Care was recognized as one of the largest nursing homes in Floyd County during the first quarter of 2026, matching five other facilities in size, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported. The facility shared its rank with Chulio Hills Health and Rehab, Etowah Landing, Pruitthealth – Rome, Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center, and Harborview Rome.

The data reveals that Fifth Avenue Health Care had 100 available beds—11 more than the county’s average at that time—and accommodated an average of 67.5 residents daily throughout the period.

The CMS awarded Fifth Avenue Health Care an overall rating of 2 out of 5, lower than the Georgia nursing home average of 2.7 in the same period.

Additionally, during the first quarter of 2026, Fifth Avenue Health Care incurred two fines amounting to $8,512 and had two associated penalties.

Altogether, Floyd County, Georgia, was home to six for-profit nursing facilities.

U.S. Census Bureau figures show the nation’s older adult population is growing, while younger groups are declining. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and up increased by 13%, and the under-18 population dropped by 1.7%. The older adult demographic has seen substantial growth in the past century, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A study released in 2021 estimated that nearly half this group—about 28 million people—may need long-term services and supports, and over one-third could eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
