In Northwest Georgia, a collaborative effort between Harbin Clinic Cancer Center and Atrium Health Floyd is providing comprehensive cancer care to the community. The partnership aims to offer advanced treatment options and promote cancer prevention through proactive measures.
Cancer experts emphasize the importance of reducing harmful habits and adhering to screening guidelines to minimize cancer risk. In 2025, an estimated 44% of cancer deaths in the U.S. will be associated with modifiable risk factors such as smoking, obesity, alcohol use, poor diet, physical inactivity, UV exposure, and infections related to cancer.
Dr. Dilawar Khan from Harbin Clinic highlights the role of a healthy diet and exercise in maintaining health: “We want our community to understand that healthy diet and exercise are the brick and mortar for health and healing.”
The Harbin Clinic Cancer Center and Atrium Health Floyd provide extensive experience in cancer screening processes. Atrium Health Floyd’s breast center offers rapid mammogram results through its “Know in 24” initiative, along with follow-up testing like biopsies. To increase accessibility in rural areas, they also operate a Mobile Mammography Coach. Additionally, The Breast Center team assists women in understanding hereditary risks through genetic testing guidance.
Both organizations recommend regular screenings based on American Cancer Society guidelines for different age groups. These include cervical cancer screenings starting at age 25, breast screenings from age 40, colorectal screenings from age 45, and prostate screening discussions for African Americans beginning at age 40.
Upon diagnosis, Harbin Clinic and Atrium Health Floyd provide personalized oncology support tailored to each patient’s needs. Dr. Matthew Mumber from Harbin Clinic states: “We meet patients’ needs at every touch point, and our support team considers every facet of a person’s well-being—diet, exercise, stress management, caring for caregivers and more.”
The collaboration emphasizes community wellness by focusing on prevention and access to expert care. With initiatives like “Know in 24” and personalized care plans, Harbin Clinic and Atrium Health Floyd aim to enhance long-term health outcomes in Northwest Georgia.
