Georgia State School Superintendent Richard Woods visited Calhoun City Schools to formally recognize Calhoun Middle School as a Math Leader School. During the visit, Superintendent Woods presented recognition ribbons from the Georgia Department of Education, marking what school officials described as a significant academic milestone.
Upon arrival, students welcomed Superintendent Woods before the event moved to the Media, College, & Career Center. There, he met with members of the system leadership team, Board of Education, and students to commemorate the school’s achievement.
The Math Leader designation is given to schools that show achievement and growth in mathematics. Calhoun Middle School received Distinguished Achievement recognition after Mrs. Megan Woodman’s Honors Algebra I students achieved 100% proficiency or above during the 2024–2025 school year.
“Achieving a 100% pass rate in Honors Algebra I is a remarkable accomplishment and a reflection of the high expectations set for our students,” said CCS Superintendent Dr. Michele Taylor. “Mrs. Woodman’s leadership and our students’ hard work truly exemplify the excellence we strive for at Calhoun City Schools.”
The students who earned this distinction have since advanced to Calhoun High School as freshmen. Their performance at the middle school level has given them an academic foundation as they continue with advanced coursework and honors classes.
Superintendent Dr. Michele Taylor also noted during the visit that Board Member Dr. Sarah Layson was once a student of Superintendent Woods, highlighting what she called “the lasting influence educators have on the students they serve.”
