Calhoun College and Career Academy Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) students took part in a mock ambulance call on Mar. 26, joined by AdventHealth Gordon President and Chief Executive Officer Justin Birmele. The event was held aboard The Healthy Hive, underscoring the partnership between Calhoun City Schools and AdventHealth.
The collaboration aims to give students hands-on training experiences that prepare them for careers in healthcare. By working directly with local healthcare providers, students gain exposure to real-world scenarios before entering the workforce.
As part of their training pathway, participants engage in computer-adaptive testing and clinical experience both on ambulances and within emergency departments. These components are designed to help students qualify for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians exam as well as state licensure requirements, providing a direct route into employment opportunities upon graduation.
School officials said they value partnerships like this one because they offer meaningful learning opportunities outside the classroom while also supporting workforce needs in the community. The ongoing collaboration is intended to benefit both students and local employers by building a pipeline of qualified professionals.
Looking ahead, Calhoun City Schools plans to continue developing programs that combine education with practical experience through partnerships with organizations such as AdventHealth.
