All five schools in the Calhoun City School District have received the Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness for a second consecutive year. The recognition, given by the Georgia Department of Education and the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, highlights schools that excel in emergency planning and preparedness beyond standard requirements.

Dr. Peter Coombe, Assistant Superintendent of Operations for Calhoun City Schools, stated, “Alongside educating students, safety is the number one priority for schools in our community. Calhoun City Schools continues to maintain safe and secure facilities that the community can be proud of. We applaud the school administration, faculty, and staff for their commitment to school safety. We also would like to offer appreciation to our first responders, the Calhoun Police and Fire Departments, along with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency for their constant support.”

State School Superintendent Richard Woods added his congratulations: “I extend my sincere congratulations to the Calhoun City School System and each of their schools on receiving the Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness. This designation recognizes schools that lead the way in emergency preparedness through intentional planning and proactive action. It is an honor to acknowledge the commitment and diligence that made this achievement possible.”

The Ready Georgia Seal is awarded to institutions that follow a comprehensive emergency planning process using an “all hazards” approach. This method prepares schools for a wide range of threats by focusing on proactive leadership, collaboration with local agencies such as police and fire departments, and continuous improvement.

The district emphasized its ongoing commitment to student and staff safety through partnerships with first responders and regular updates to its emergency procedures.
