During the 2024-25 school year, Armuchee High School enrolled 55 African American students, an increase of 17% compared to the prior year, reports the Georgia Department of Education.
School enrollment data showed a total of 928 students at Armuchee High for the 2024-25 school year. African American students represented 6% of all enrollees, making them the third-largest demographic at the school.
The school operates within the Floyd County School District, whose central office is located in Rome.
Of the 14 schools in the district, Coosa High School reported the largest number of African American students, enrolling 92 individuals in 2024-25.
The Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report found more than 1.7 million students attended the state’s public schools. Elementary schools enrolled the most—787,206 students (45.9%)—with middle schools at 388,733 (22.7%), and high schools at 539,092 (31.4%).
Chronic absenteeism continues to be a significant post-pandemic challenge in Georgia schools, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of classes in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. To address this, GaDOE introduced a statewide initiative featuring a real-time attendance dashboard, a public information campaign, and assistance for high-need districts.
In 2025, Georgia legislators approved new attendance laws that prohibit expulsion solely for absenteeism. The new law establishes additional reporting requirements and aligns with alternative diploma programs.
By 2026, Georgia had an average student-to-teacher ratio of about 14:1, outperforming the national average of 15:1.
